In the beginning, Yes.  Programming is all about solving problems that you will never find a perfect solution to.   Programming Games requires you to do the same thing only you can't bog down the frame rate with a slow solution.

Again, if you have to ask this question, you shouldn't be programming games.
 
How much Math do I need? What Kinds?
Math is very important when programming games.  Trig, Linear Algebra, and Calculus are some major courses you should look into taking.  More specifically, you'll want to learn matrices, word problems, and more matrices (everything in 3d is done with matrices).
